Find files later

The point of renaming is not a tidy folder today, it is finding the file in eight months. nymos does not replace Spotlight or Finder search; it feeds them. A search tool can only match the words that are there, and a name like IMG_4023.HEIC gives it nothing to match.

Turn vague into findable

The job is to put the words you will actually search for into the name. IMG_4023.HEIC becomes 2026-03-15-acme-packaging-photo. Now a search for "acme", or "packaging", or the date, lands on it. The same file, suddenly reachable by the terms you would naturally type.

A shape that sorts

A useful pattern is date, then who, then what: 2026-03-15-acme-invoice. The ISO date up front means an alphabetical folder listing is also a timeline, and the party and the kind of document are exactly what you remember about a file later. Templates let you fix that shape once.

Names carry, tags refine

Keep the searched-for words in the name, where they travel with the file wherever it goes. Push the extra classification, a status, a broad category, into Finder tags instead. The two work together: the name gets you close, the tags narrow it down.

It works with what you have

No new app to learn and no index to maintain. nymos improves the filenames; the search you already use, Spotlight, Finder, the search box in any Open dialog, does the rest, better, because now there is something to find.
